Why not make an item with a small staff model that fits into the back slot much like the wing mods or backpack mods. See, last playthrough, I was using a long-sword wielder, and she used an animation for sheathing her sword from this mod: I find other mods that edit this quest portray this as a drawn-out decision where the player has to weigh their alternatives and then can somehow win back the Blades without killing Paarthurnax.
